Alee, legal intern, is a second-year law student with a strong focus on family and criminal law, bringing hands-on experience from her work with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and a commitment to client-centered learning through her academic, research, and leadership involvement.

Alee's Background
Alee Smith is a Pierre, South Dakota native. She is currently a second-year law student at the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, with minors in Childhood and Adolescent Development and Legal Studies, from the University of South Dakota. Through her academic and professional experiences, she developed a strong interest in both family law and criminal law.
Prior to and through law school, Alee interned with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, where she gained valuable insight into criminal investigations and the legal system. She will also serve as a Research Assistant for the WORKS Clinic at the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law during the upcoming academic year.
In addition to her coursework, Alee has been actively involved in the law school community through leadership and service organizations. She has held leadership positions within the Agricultural Law Society and has been involved with Family Law and Child Advocacy, Women in Law, and the First Generation Law Society Mentor program. She values opportunities to work closely with mentors and clients and enjoys learning from the experiences and perspectives of others.
Outside of school, Alee enjoys walking her German Shorthair/Vizsla mix, baking sourdough, and fostering cats through her local animal shelter.
