Meet Emily

Emily Maurice, a South Dakota native, graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 2008.  Emily obtained her Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Paralegal Studies in 2010 and began working as a paralegal focusing on employment law matters with big law in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 
 
In 2011, Emily returned to Sioux Falls and began working as a paralegal at Lynn, Jackson, Shultz & Lebrun.  Following 3 years of learning all aspects of litigation, Emily decided to attend law school at the University of South Dakota.  Emily graduated with Honors in 2017.  While at the University of South Dakota School of Law she served as co-president of the Trial Team, President of her class, and the Note & Comment Editor of the South Dakota Law Review.  Emily was published in Volume 61 of the South Dakota Law Review.
 
A drive to deliver quality service to clients led Emily to join in the founding of Halbach | Szwarc Law Firm in 2023, a full service law firm in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which allows her to continue to provide competent and efficient service with a team of experienced and capable attorneys.
 
Emily believes in contributing to building the future of the legal profession to serve clients whether it is through teaching an intern or engaging youth in the discussion of possible legal careers.  She currently serves on the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association as the American Association for Justice Young Board Member, the Strategic Planning Committee for the State Bar of South Dakota, was the Vice-President and President of the Second Circuit Women in Law, and a member of the Family Law Committee for the State Bar of South Dakota.
Emily and her husband live in Sioux Falls with their three children and two dogs.  Emily and her family enjoy attending gymnastics competitions, or classes at 605 Ninja, working on their home, or going on vacations to explore the world.
